What are the top 2-3 things employers look for on a resume that makes you stand out?

My experience is that resume readers looks for items of interest to them, so sometimes you will get conflicting comments about what to include, formats, etc. Hered are several comments that I believe will help you have a good start on your resume. 1. The main purpose of a resume is to get you an interview, not the job. You are marketing a product (YOU) so it needs to "sell" you as a candidate. Make it clear, direct, easy to read (bullet statements, phrases), and professional in appearance. No photos, gimmicks, or unusual paper. 2. Your objective statement should be targeted to the job for which you are applying. Statements like "a challenging job in a growing industry where I can use my talents" is unimpressive. Say something like "I am looking for a marketing computer graphics position in a retail sales business." 3. Your accomplishments should tell the challenge, action taken, and results. Vary the order a little bit for readability. Having the results first is best for major ones. Example: "Saved $5,600 in parts storage through consolidation to meet overhead cost reductions."
